About Ocean

A Practice and Study Community dedicated to the Teachings of Chogyam Trungpa

Ocean is an online Dharma community, launched in 2014. Its mission is to further the practice and study of Chogyam Trungpa’s teachings, and to nurture community amongst its members. Ocean offers a range of introductory, intermediate and in depth classes. It also provides practice opportunities, including daily sitting meditation and an array of sadhana practices for students with the necessary transmissions. Ocean is a members-only site. Membership is free of charge. Members pay a nominal fee for classes. All practices are free of charge. We currently have over 1,300 active members.

Who we are

Ocean is a part of the Chronicles of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, which manages three ongoing projects:

Ocean

A Practice and Study Community dedicated to the Teachings of Chogyam Trungpa

The Chronicles

The Chronicles publishes articles, interviews, reviews, first hand accounts , selected audio and video lectures by Trungpa Rinpoche

Oral History Library

Record and preserve first hand accounts from people who knew Trungpa Rinpoche

The Chronicles

The Chronicles is a celebration of the life and teachings of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Its mission is to expand the general knowledge and understanding of Rinpoche’s teachings; and to trace his legacy and influences into the current era. The Chronicles publishes articles, interviews, reviews, first hand accounts (drawn from the oral history library), selected audio and video lectures by Trungpa Rinpoche and other teachers, and relevant news. These activities have been ongoing since 2002. The Chronicles is free and open to the public. In 2019 it served an audience of 49,000 visitors, from 57 countries.

Oral History

The original motivation for The Chronicles was to record and preserve first hand accounts from people who knew Trungpa Rinpoche. Much of the content in The Chronicles is from this oral history library. However, most of the library itself has not been published, primarily because these interviews were not conducted for a public audience. They are, in many cases, deeply personal and their value is primarily archival. However, poignant passages from the library are routinely published in the Chronicles.

The Board

The Chronicles is comprised of two organizations, one based in the US and the other in Canada.

Our US Board of Directors is Peter Volz, Hazel Bercholz, Marguerite Prentice, Joanne Fordham, and Walter Fordham.

Our Canadian Board members are Barry Boyce, Judi Juskevich, Carolyn Gimian, Joanne Fordham, and Walter Fordham.

The Codirectors

Joanne and Walter Fordham founded the Chronicles in 2002. They became students of Trungpa Rinpoche in the 70s, and moved from Boulder to Halifax with their family in 1988.
