Buddhadharma is full of numbers.
One Buddha, Two Truths, Three Yanas . . .
But those Fours!

The Four Foundations of Mindfulness
The Four Immeasurables
The Four Karmas
The Four Visions of Ati

To begin the Year of the Iron Rat we will sink our teeth into a hearty meal of the three yanas. We will explore, study, contemplate, meditate, and discuss one set of these each week.
And we will look at the potential for these 4 sets being linked — in our experience of them. Both sequentially — as stages on the path, and simultaneously — as the path is the goal.

Like the monk said to the hot dog vendor: “Make me one with everything.”
The first class will be an introductory talk and discussion of the next 4 weeks to come, culminating on April 1st, our guru’s favorite holiday. Mark will provide a rich resource for reading, for those who like to read.

About the Instructors

Mark Nowakowski met the Vidyadhara Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1972 and has been his student ever since. He also studies and translates with many other Kagyü and Nyingma masters. Mark is particularly inspired by the works of Chögyam Trungpa and his teacher Khenpo Gangshar, and is currently coordinating the translation and publication of a book of the latter’s shorter works of pith instructions and songs of realization. Mark is a senior member of the Nalanda Translation Committee and a senior teacher in the Shambhala mandala.
