    Hi Llew,

Yes, quite possibly there is a connection. I would love to hear more about how you see absolute and relative bodhicitta relating to the inner and outer wound.

My sense about what Trungpa Rinpoche is saying here is that the sore spot is the most direct and tangible beginning of compassion. It’s where to start. If we poke around the outer wound maybe we can generate relative bodhicitta (the desire to liberate ourselves from samsara for the sake of all beings) from there, from that soft spot. And absolute bodhicitta is often described as the mind (citta) that realizes emptiness. So, maybe the inner wound, tathagatagarbha is what is being realized by that mind. What do you think?

    Hi,

Barry discussed this today but I wanted to write a reply here too, in case anyone didn’t catch the discussion. The word that is translated as “awareness” is “rigpa”. Trungpa Rinpoche usually translated “rigpa” as “insight”, so it’s a somewhat unusual choice for him.

    Hope that helps!

You’re welcome, Max. Also in response to your question in class, I should add that “lodral” is also sometimes phoneticized as “lodrel” or “lo drel”.
