Andy, thank you.  I really appreciate this!  The St. Johnsbury PTOD book group, which I am a member of, is now studying the second edition, The Bodhisattva Path of Wisdom & Compassion.  This question/concern has come up for us.  How do we know the Bhudda said these things because nothing was written down for hundreds of years.  Do you mind if I share this and the website link with them?

Barry, thank you.  I appreciate you taking the time to follow up with this.  So many “flickering thoughts” to think about or, not.  As I participated in the slogan practice course last year with you, we went over all of these in great detail but one tends to forget and need many reminders. Ego makes a lot of demands and has a lot of rules that it wants us to follow.  One could say, it is relentless. Being a child of illusion helps us not to take ego/things/thoughts so seriously.

They both work together nicely in that one slogan helps us realize that most thoughts are empty of reality – absolute bodhichitta; and the other helps show us a way to appreciate, understand and work with that in our every day living. relative bodhichitta.  yes/no?

    Dear Barry, Daniel and Patricia,

So many thanks for putting this great program together.  I’m grateful to have the opportunity to study the slogans in this way.  My habit is to pick up the book and read whatever I open it up to. To look at them in this way takes on a whole new meaning.   I really enjoyed the chanting and contemplative aspect of it, as well as all of the knowledge of the material that was presented.  My understanding of  absolute and relative bodhichitta was enhanced.  And all of this accomplished via zoom!

Precious human birth, difficult to find, free and well-favored.

Barry, very cool that you are interviewing Rinpoche (DKR) about his new book.  He is a beloved teacher of my deceased partner, Michael Taney.  And also of mine.  We often attended programs at his place in Vershire, Vermont.  I still do.  I’ll tune in to your interview today.  I also sent the link to my PTOD book group.

Daniel, I didn’t see your message until I manually opened this section of the forum.  apparently, one doesn’t receive email notifications even when there is a response to a forum one has begun.

Hi Patricia,  I didn’t see this message until I entered the forum and subscribed.  I thought any messages entered in the forum would reach the participants via email but maybe that’s incorrect.  Also, up until a few minutes ago I was anticipating beginning this class at 11:30 instead of 11, so a bit of a surprise.  I wonder if the returning participants have noticed the start time is 11.  Thanks.

I am grateful for this class and these teachings.  It is so helpful to study the slogans under the seven points while keeping in mind whether a particular section is working with ultimate or relative bodhichitta.

I agree that practicing the five strengths is an ongoing challenge – one I aspire to keep working on.  I found it particularly hard after the bottom dropped out of Shambhala (my community for 13 years).  Since making the decision to leave Shambhala, I’ve felt so much groundlessness in my practice and in need of a teacher.  But I have learned and I’m learning from these classes, and others that I participate in, as well as conversations with senior teachers, that a teacher does not have to be one specific person.  For that I am grateful…

Thank you Barry, Daniel and Patricia and all other participants.

Thank you, Patricia.  My grandchildren will be visiting on Sunday so I won’t be able to make Sunday’s class.  Will look forward to viewing the recorded class thereafter.
