Root samayas are those that can eliminate the benefit of practice. Branch samayas are those that can be broken with only a diminishment of the benefits of practice.
As to your second question, that’s the way it seems to me. In terms of mind bondage as VCTR describes it, it is that subtle joy that arises out of seeing the world in a sacred way. Of appreciating our world instead of being hassled by it. However, someone else might want to step in here and suggest another point of view.
