Thank you Chris! I can tell you that the teachers got a lot out of this exploration too.

Here are the words to Khenpo Rinpoche’s song you referred to Denny.

    SELF-APPEARING ILLUSION

    All these forms, appearance emptiness
Like a rainbow with its shining glow
In the reaches of appearance emptiness
Just let go and go where no mind goes

Every sound is sound and emptiness
Like the sound of an echo’s roll
In the reaches of sound and emptiness
Just let go and go where no mind goes

Every feeling is bliss and emptiness
Way beyond what words can show
In the reaches of bliss and emptiness
Just let go and go where no mind goes

    All awareness, awareness emptiness
Way beyond what thought can know
In the reaches of awareness emptiness
Let awareness go, oh, where no mind goes

Is this the quote you are looking for:

E ma, the phenomena of the three realms of samsara,
While not existing, they appear, how incredibly amazing!

From “Milarepa’s First Visit to Rag-ma”

This idea is present already in the Uttaratantra in verse I.40:

If the buddha element did not exist,
There would be no weariness of suffering,
Nor would there be the wish, striving,
    And aspiration for nirvāṇa.

Thank you for this Llew. I like your groups of three.

The three ways of developing prajna (the stages in the process of understanding), map to the third training, the training in prajna. It might seem odd that the prajna arising from meditation is situated in the training on prajna, rather than the training in meditation, but the lists approach things from different angles. You engage in all three trainings at the same time. That’s the path. On the path, you develop prajna through three methods: listening, contemplating and meditating. Sometimes these are referred to as the three wisdom tools.

Hi Pamela, you are very welcome. I’d be happy if you share them.

The name of the book, or article, the reading comes from, is shown on the course description. It is the highlighted. text that is the link to that reading.

The readings for each class are listed under the description of that class.
