We are all looking for something: happiness, enlightenment, the perfect popsicle. Some call this bodhichitta, awakened heart, the thought of enlightenment. But what is it, where is it, how do we find it, how do we develop it? Fortunately, the tradition of mahayana Buddhism, the great vehicle of the bodhisattva can help us out with this. The practice of lojong, mind training, shows us the way.

The original Eight Verses of Training the Mind, were written by the Kadampa master, Geshe Langri Thangpa, just after the first millennium. A thousand years later, they are just as direct and profound, so easy and so difficult. Inspired by these, Geshe Chekawa later wrote The Seven Points of Training the Mind, which include the 59 lojong slogans, often known as “Atisha’s Slogans.”

Through contemplation and discussion, we will explore and learn how to use these in our life. The first class will be an introduction to the history and method of this tradition. In the following four classes, we will work with two verses each week.
